Sometimes in jazz notation this chord is shown with lower case m7, and then in parenthesis, flat-5. Half-diminished seventh chords, diminished triad plus a minor seventh, would be shown with root plus the degree sign with a slash through it, 7. Minor seventh chords, minor triad plus a minor seventh, are shown with root plus m, i, n 7 or lower-case m 7. So, a-flat major 7, a-flat m, a, j 7, refers to the chord a-flat c, e-flat g. Major seventh chords, remember this means major major, so a major triad plus a major seventh, have the root plus m, a, j 7 or capital M 7. B-flat seven is a b-flat dominant seventh chord, b, d, f and a-flat. Dominant seventh chords just get the upper-case root and a seven. There are also root quality labels for seventh chords, several of them are used here. These are common, but not universal, ways of labeling triads. A C augmented triad could be written C with a plus sign. A B diminished triad can be written as B dim, D-I-M, or B with a degree sign. An F minor triad can be written, F with a lowercase m, or F min. So for example, an E-flat major triad can be written simply as E-flat. In folk, pop and jazz music, chord notation is based on root and quality. It's handy to be able to specify chord when writing music without needing to write all the notes. Also known as major dominant, minor, half diminished, and fully diminished seventh chords.
