Virtual synchronous means that instruction is provided in real time but virtually, and asynchronous means that instruction can happen at different times. Three types of instructional days can count toward the 180: in-person, virtual synchronous and virtual asynchronous. For grades 7-12 the school day must consist of at least six hours of instructional time. Indiana schools are required to have at least 180 instructional days during the school year, which is the standard amount of time for most other states, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.įor grades 1-6, the school day must consist of at least five hours of instructional time. Perry Township, Wayne Township and Beech Grove City Schools have the earliest start times for Marion County schools, with all three districts set to start on July 26. Some school districts are opting for a virtual learning day or no school at all on that day. Central Indiana will be in the direct path, aka the path of totality, when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the sun’s face. The biggest question for districts is what they're going to do about the rare total solar eclipse that Indianapolis will experience April 8, 2024. School has just let out for the summer, which must mean it's time for Marion County students, parents and teachers to start anticipating the 2023-24 school year.
